A map of where you want to go is the only way to ensure you'll get there. Well-written goals are your map to success for personal objectives like continuing to eat healthy.  But a goal is just a wish if is isn't S-M-A-R-T:

Specific.  Be precise.  Write down exactly what you expect to achieve.  How many pounds do you want to lose?  Want to lose a dress size?  Aim for a smaller pants size?  Although we'll ask you to include your goal on the contract, please buy a notebook just for this program. Start the notebook with your goals.  We'll ask you to record other thoughts and ideas in the notebook along the way.

Measurable.  Include amounts, times, days and other milestones for gauging success.  Include your goal for the end of this program, plus ones more long-term.

Achievable.  Set your sights on an attainable goal, yet one that causes you to stretch, to go beyond what you're doing today.

Relevant.  Although it's nice for your spouse, kids, boss, parents and friends to want you to be successful, your goal should matter to you, first and foremost.  Why is this goal important to you? What are some benefits you see right now from losing weight?

Trackable.  Behavior change doesn't happen in a fell swoop -- it takes time. Record your progress over days or weeks to see how much you're achieved.
